A poor Afghan family sell their daughter, the girls brother was devoted to her. The book describes the separate lives of the siblings and their families. The daughter ends up in Paris with a wealthy family.
This book is composed of three interconnected stories, only when you reach the last one do you appreciate the first two. I nearly gave up a few times but persevered. All three chapters explore grief, loss and coming to terms with these. I did find it a bit heavy going in places
A tragic story of a devoted father who is responsible for their toddlers death. A story that demonstrates how small choices can have massive consequences. A story that also demonstrates how important it is to forgive, no matter how difficult it is.
This is a collection of short stories, some better than others. They are easy to read but a little bland!
Having read Earth, Water and now Fire, I am more than convinced that John Boyne must have suffered some traumatic incident/trauma in his past. I cannot think that anyone could just use their imagination to think up the ideas for these psychological thrillers. Some of the characters from the previous books are mentioned in this book but do not have any bearing on the story. The book is very readable but has a real twist in the tale.
